Keeler NuVision                             SEE PHOTO

The Low Vision field has advanced markedly in the last six years.  Originally the LVES or Low Vision Enhancement system , was developed by NASA scientists and researchers fro John's Hopkins Medical Center.  This unit, a wonderful concept, was somewhat over-engineered and weighed over TWO pounds on the patient's head.

Subsequently, another company, VES (Vision Enhancement Systems) introduced a unit called the V-Max.  At 23 ounces it had some major advantages over LVES, but also had some serious shortcomings.  Then VES introduced the Jordy, which at under 10 ounces, delivered on some of the early promises of video technology.  You may read about Jordy on the Jordy page.

Keeler, a company long involved in the Low Vision field, is introducing a new device this week.  The name is tentatively, NuVision.  It is a promising entry into the electronic magnification field.  Much lighter than even the Jordi, the unit does sacrifice some features to attain it's light weight, the final decision as to the importance of these features remains with the potential user and their individual needs.

It's features (tentatively) include:
Light Weight - Claimed to approach 6 ounces.
Wide Field of View - 44 degrees
Manual Focus for Distance , intermediate and near viewing.
Fixed Magnification 5X
Full Color
Battery Operated with commonly available batteries.
Ability to enhance and reverse contrast of printed materials.
Low Light Requirements
PROJECTED RETAIL PRICE ~ $3000.00
